Tokuda Yasokichi III Saiyu Gradated-Glaze Flower Vase, Kutani, Signed Box

$1,599.00

A tall flower vase (hanaike) by Tokuda Yasokichi III, the Kutani master of gradated colour glazes, with its signed wooden box.

Tokuda Yasokichi III (1933–2009) of Ishikawa transformed Kutani ware with saiyū, his luminous graded colour glazes that shift from deep indigo through blues, greens and violets across the surface of the vessel. Born Tokuda Masahiko, he was designated a Living National Treasure, and his gradated glaze vessels are among the most recognisable works of post-war Japanese ceramics. This narrow 24 cm form shows how his colour bands wrap and flow around a vessel.
