"Momiji" Five-Person Tea Set by Cheon Han-bong — Mungyeong, Paulownia Box

$2,250.00

A five-person tea set with maple-leaf (momiji) decoration by Cheon Han-bong, the Mungyeong potter whose tea bowls built the modern Korean-Japanese tea-ware trade — boxed in paulownia.

Cheon Han-bong began at the wheel as a boy in the 1940s and spent the following decades making tea bowls for Japanese tea schools, long before Korean tea ware was fashionable at home; he is recognized as a Korea Master Craftsman in ceramics. This set is made for leaf tea in the Korean manner: a side-handled pot, a cooling pitcher to bring the water down to temperature, and five cups, all in his warm Mungyeong clay with the maple motif that tea collectors in Japan associate with his kiln.
