Tokuda Masahiko (Yasokichi III) Kutani Vase, Masahiko Signature

$919.00

A compact jar-form flower vase signed 'Masahiko', made by Tokuda Yasokichi III before he succeeded to the Yasokichi name, with a box.

Tokuda Yasokichi III (1933–2009) of Ishikawa transformed Kutani ware with saiyū, his luminous graded colour glazes that shift from deep indigo through blues, greens and violets across the surface of the vessel. Born Tokuda Masahiko, he was designated a Living National Treasure, and his gradated glaze vessels are among the most recognisable works of post-war Japanese ceramics. Pieces signed with his given name come from the years before his succession and are an accessible way to collect this artist.
