Round Tea Basket in Damyang Bamboo & Black Bamboo by Park Hee-young

A round tea-carrying basket woven from finely split Damyang bamboo and reinforced with black bamboo (ojuk), by Park Hee-young — offered through the Korea Craft & Design Foundation.

Damyang, in South Jeolla, has been Korea's bamboo-craft center for centuries. The radiating "sunburst" weave is built strip by strip from bamboo split to the thickness of paper, then bound with the dark, glossy stems of black bamboo. Made to carry a tea set to the garden or the tea room — or simply to hold one.
