Kimura Yasunori Edo Kiriko Rocks Glass, Hokusai "Great Wave" with Chrysanthemum Kagome

$939.00

An Edo kiriko old-fashioned glass cut by Kimura Yasunori with Hokusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa above a chrysanthemum basket-weave.

Edo kiriko, the cut glass of Tokyo, is made by grinding through a thin layer of coloured glass to reveal clear crystal beneath. Kimura Yasunori is a certified traditional craftsman (dentō kōgeishi) at Taburo Kobo in Edogawa, and this piece belongs to the workshop's series based on Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The breaking wave of Kanagawa-oki nami-ura is carved into the ruri-blue casing, and the lower body is cut in kiku-kagome, chrysanthemums set in a fine hexagonal lattice. It is a full-size rocks glass, made to be used for whisky or shochu, and arrives in a paulownia box.
