Sakaida Kakiemon XIII deep bowl

Sakaida Kakiemon XIII Nishiki Bird-and-Flower Deep Bowl, 33 cm, Signed Box

$1,679.00

A broad deep bowl in overglaze enamels by Sakaida Kakiemon XIII, decorated with a bird-and-flower ground pattern (Nishiki Kachō Jimon) and accompanied by its signed wooden box.

Sakaida Kakiemon XIII (1906–1982) of Arita, Saga, succeeded to the Kakiemon name in 1963 and is celebrated for reviving nigoshide, the milky-white porcelain body that sets off the family's sparse, asymmetric overglaze enamels. The Kakiemon kiln has defined this style of Arita enamelled porcelain since the seventeenth century. At over 33 cm across, this is a substantial display or serving piece, its enamels framed by the clean white porcelain the Kakiemon workshop is known for.
