Hattori Shosai Lacquer Document Box "Hawk on Pine", A4 Bunko, Echizen
$929.00
A black lacquered A4 document box (bunko) decorated with a hawk perched on a pine, by the certified traditional craftsman Hattori Shosai.
The bunko, a lidded box for letters and papers, has long been a fixture of the Japanese writing desk. This one is made in the Echizen tradition of Fukui, with a wooden body hand-coated in urushi. The hawk, admired for its keen sight and strength, paired with the evergreen pine, is a long-standing emblem of vigour and longevity, a natural gift for a retirement or promotion. It holds A4 documents, stationery or keepsakes.
