Hannya Kankei Cast-Iron Tetsubin, Pavilion Landscape with Silver Inlay (Kibundo Style)
$2,249.00
A cast-iron tetsubin with a pavilion-and-river landscape picked out in silver inlay, after the famous Kibundo kettles, by Takaoka metal artist Hannya Kankei.
Hannya Kankei (born 1933 in Takaoka, Toyama) learned the trade in his father's workshop from 1949, was first selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1969 and has been accepted some 35 times since, becoming a full member of the Japan Kogei Association in 1972. Kibundo of Kyoto was renowned in the Meiji era for richly modelled, inlaid kettles, and this piece follows that style with a cast-bronze lid.
