Yoshida Minori Kinrande Neji Hana-Karakusa Guinomi, Red, Paulownia Box
A kinrande sake cup from the Kinzan kiln of Yoshida Minori, painted with a twisting flower-arabesque in gold over red.
Yoshida Minori is the third head of the Kinzan kiln in Komatsu and was designated a Living National Treasure in 2001 for yuri-kinsai, the technique of sealing cut gold leaf beneath a clear glaze. The kiln is equally known for kinrande, the Kutani tradition of laying fine gold drawing over enamel grounds. Here the flower-arabesque (hana-karakusa) spirals around the cup in the auspicious neji (twisted) arrangement. Each piece is painted by hand, so colour and pattern vary slightly from cup to cup.
