Tokuda Masahiko (Yasokichi III) Large Flower Vase, 30 cm, Masahiko Signature
A large, broad flower vase signed 'Masahiko' on the base, made by the future Tokuda Yasokichi III before he took the family name, offered with a fitted box.
Tokuda Yasokichi III (1933–2009) of Ishikawa transformed Kutani ware with saiyū, his luminous graded colour glazes that shift from deep indigo through blues, greens and violets across the surface of the vessel. Born Tokuda Masahiko, he was designated a Living National Treasure, and his gradated glaze vessels are among the most recognisable works of post-war Japanese ceramics. Works signed with his given name date from before his succession to the Yasokichi title and give a view of the artist's development; at more than 30 cm across this is an imposing display piece.
