Shimakurado Copper Kyusu Teapot

Shimakurado Hand-Raised Copper Kyusu Teapot, Hiramaru, Blue Finish, 380 ml

$1,029.00

A small, flattened-round (hiramaru) teapot raised by hand from pure copper by Shimakurado of Tsubame, with a blue finish and a wrapped bail handle.

Tsubame-Sanjo in Niigata is the centre of tsuiki copperware, where a vessel is hammered up from one flat sheet of copper and annealed again and again as it hardens. Copper is naturally antibacterial, and the maker notes that it brings out the flavour of tea. The surface darkens and gains depth with daily use. As each piece is handmade, slight differences between teapots are normal.
