Shimakurado Hand-Raised Copper Kettle, Teppatsu Shape, Blue Finish, 1.4 L
A low, bowl-shaped (teppatsu) water kettle hand-raised from pure copper by Shimakurado of Tsubame, with a blue finish and a wrapped handle.
Tsuiki copperware is made by hammering a single sheet of copper into shape over many hours, annealing it each time the metal hardens. The finished vessel needs no seams, and its surface records every hammer blow. Copper is naturally antibacterial and conducts heat well, and the maker notes that copper kettles and teapots bring out the flavour of tea. With use the colour slowly deepens into a patina unique to its owner. Each kettle is handmade, so slight individual differences are to be expected.
