Rice-Straw Ash Black Glaze Tea Bowl by Gamwol Yi Jong-ryeol
$695.00
A black-glazed tea bowl made with ash from burned rice straw, by Gamwol Yi Jong-ryeol.
Ash glazes are among the oldest in East Asia: potters burned what the farm left over — rice straw, pine, bean stalks — and melted the ash into glass. Rice-straw ash is rich in silica and gives a dense, soft-sheened black that breaks to brown at the rim. A quiet, everyday bowl with deep roots.
