Mori Ginki Pure Silver Gyokuhai Sake Cup "Tsukimi-Fuji – Moon"
A hand-raised pure silver sake cup from Mori Ginki that evokes the shaded moon and a snow-capped Mount Fuji, with a rabbit worked into its hammered surface.
Mori Ginki was founded in 1927 by Mori Zennosuke, who trained under the Ginza master Tajima Katsuyuki before setting up as a tankin (raising) smith in Shitaya, Tokyo. In the gyokuhai series, hammer marks are deliberately left on the inside of the bowl: when sake is poured, a round "jewel" (gyoku) of light appears in the centre, ringed by a shimmering halo. On this "Moon" cup a rabbit is picked out in ganseki (rock) hammering on the outside. Tokyo Ginki was designated a national traditional craft in 1979.
