Mishima Tea Bowl by Kim Young-sik — Joseon-yo, Mungyeong

$1,250.00

A mishima tea bowl — Korean buncheong with stamped and inlaid white slip — by Kim Young-sik of Joseon-yo, one of the established kilns of Mungyeong, Korea's traditional tea-bowl valley.

Mungyeong potters still work the way the bowls that reached 16th-century Japan were made: local clay, a kick wheel, and a climbing wood kiln. In mishima, the leather-hard bowl is pressed with small stamps and the impressions filled with white slip, then scraped back so the pattern reads like fine script across the surface. A quieter, more traditional bowl than its price suggests.
