Mie Japanese Mulberry Go Bowls (Goke), Tategata Extra-Large
$939.00
Go bowls turned from Japanese mulberry by the craftsman Mie, in the tall tategata shape and extra-large size.
Since the Showa era, hon-kuwa (Japanese mulberry) has been the standard wood for fine go bowls. It is valued for its golden colour and lively grain, which darken to a deep amber with handling over the years. These bowls were made by an experienced Japanese craftsman signing as Mie, in the tategata (upright) form that stands slightly taller than the common flat shape. The extra-large (tokudai) size holds any glass go stones and clamshell stones up to No. 36 (about 10.1 mm thick), so they suit a premium set. The listing photo shows a sample; grain, figure and colour vary from bowl to bowl.
