Kimura Yasunori Edo Kiriko Guinomi Sake Cup, Chrysanthemum Kagome, Ruri Blue

$509.00

An Edo kiriko sake cup cut by certified traditional craftsman Kimura Yasunori in his densest pattern, chrysanthemum within basket-weave.

Edo kiriko is the cut glass of Tokyo, made since the 1830s by grinding patterns through a thin coloured casing into clear glass beneath. Kimura Yasunori is a dentō kōgeishi of the craft working at Taburo Kobo in Edogawa, Tokyo. This cup is cased in ruri (lapis) blue and cut with kiku-kagome: chrysanthemum flowers, long a symbol of good fortune, set into a hexagonal basket-weave lattice of very fine lines. The maker describes the pattern as proof of high technical skill; in the hand the cuts throw light through the blue like a jewel.
