Kato Yaemon E-Shino Tea Bowl "Murashigure", Box Inscribed by Hisada Soya (Jingyusai)

$3,049.00

An E-Shino matcha bowl by Mino potter Kato Yaemon, named "Murashigure" (passing autumn showers) with a box inscription by tea master Hisada Soya.

Kato Yaemon (born 1942) studied at the Otani Ceramic Research Institute, trained under his father Kato Juemon and established the Yatsusaka kiln in Ogaya, at the heart of the Mino tradition of Seto-guro, Ki-Seto, Shino and Oribe. E-Shino bowls are painted in iron oxide beneath the thick, soft feldspar glaze that defines Shino ware. The box carries the inscription of Hisada Soya (Jingyusai, 1925–2010) of the Hisada house, giving the bowl its poetic name.
