Ikkei Boxwood Netsuke 'Griffin' with Ebony Inlay

A young griffin with a slightly oversized head, carved in boxwood with ebony inlay by netsuke artist Ikkei.

Ikkei gives the mythical griffin a youthful, almost cub-like proportion, and the gallery notes that the piece sits comfortably in the palm, which only adds to its charm. Boxwood is the traditional netsuke material, prized for its density and fine grain, and the dark ebony inlay gives crisp contrast. The artist's signature is placed near the cord holes, in the manner of classic netsuke. It is delivered with a cord attached, so it can be worn as a toggle or displayed on its own.
