Hozumi Shoichi Shingata Furo Kettle

Hozumi Shoichi Shingata Furo Kettle with Beach-Pine Ground Pattern

$2,029.00

A shingata (classic true-form) tea kettle for the furo brazier, cast with a beach-pine (hamamatsu) ground pattern, by kettle maker Hozumi Shoichi, supplied with its kan carrying rings.

Hozumi Shoichi was born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1942; the dealer notes a commendation from the Governor of Osaka in 1999 and a solo exhibition at Masudaya Gallery in Tokyo in 2001. The shingata form, with its rounded shoulder and pair of lug handles, is the archetypal Japanese tea kettle, used over the portable furo brazier from May through October.
