Fujiwara Yu Bizen Small Jar (Kotsubo), 22 cm, Living National Treasure, Signed Box
$999.00
A full, rounded Bizen jar by Living National Treasure Fujiwara Yu, with its signed wooden box.
Fujiwara Yu (1932–2001), eldest son of Fujiwara Kei, was a Living National Treasure for Bizen ware. Bizen is unglazed stoneware fired for days in wood-burning kilns, where ash deposits and flame contact create the natural variations in colour and texture prized by collectors; no two pieces fire alike. Fujiwara Yu was known for strong, generous jar forms, and at 22 cm in both height and width this piece has real presence on a shelf or low table.
