The kiln is equally known for kinrande, the Kutani tradition of laying fine gold drawing over enamel grounds. Here the flower-arabesque (hana-karakusa) spirals around the cup in the auspicious neji (twisted) arrangement. Each piece is painted by hand, so colour and pattern vary slightly from cup to cup.

Details

Artist: Yoshida Minori (吉田美統), Kinzan kiln, Kutani

Decoration: kinrande twisted flower-arabesque (金襴手捻り花唐草), red

Material: porcelain

Size: approx. 6.5 cm diameter × 4.5 cm high

Box: paulownia box with cord (桐箱紐通し)

Condition: new

Watch: Yoshida Minori's yuri-kinsai technique

A digest of the Japan Kogei Association's training record of Living National Treasure Yoshida Minori demonstrating yuri-kinsai (gold under glaze).
