While at Nihon University he took part in excavations of old kiln sites and was captivated by the ceramics, founding his own kiln at the foot of Mount Kagami in 1969; the dealer describes him as head of the Karatsu ware cooperative. Imogashira jars, named for their rounded taro-like form, are among the most classic mizusashi shapes, and the kohiki slip shows the subtle color shifts of the wood-fired kiln.

Details

Artist: Inoue Toya (井上東也), Kagamiyama kiln, Karatsu

Size: approx. 18.2 cm diameter × 16.7 cm high

Box: paulownia tomobako signed by the artist, with cloth and artist's profile (box may follow up to two weeks after order)

Condition: new

Watch: a Karatsu potter at work

A profile of Karatsu-ware potter Nakazato Kenta, from the "Ashita e no Tobira" series by At Home.
